Afloat - a collaboration between Aaron Seitz and Rachel Hentch
Rachel writes:
IN THE SERENDIPITOUS REALM of digital exchanges, I found myself entangled in a collaborative venture with Aaron, spurred by the enigmatic theme of 'edges' and building on an agreed initial proposition of intertwining text, music, and visuals. This set the stage for an exploration of boundaries, both physical and metaphysical. From our initial WhatsApp exchange to the transition onto Google Docs, our dialogue burgeoned with a tapestry of ideas and personal reflections. Amidst logistical hiccups and unforeseen circumstances, such as Aaron's minor bicycle accident, our connection deepened, transcending the confines of scheduled Zoom sessions into a fluid exploration of boundaries, both artistic and existential.
For me, the journey became a poignant introspection into my own narrative. Contemplating the edges of collaboration and the transformative potential of disruption, I delved into my personal experiences, grappling with identity, relationships, and the allure of danger and disruption. As Aaron navigated the realms of survival and contribution, intergenerational struggles, and the permeable nature of political discourse, our musings coalesced into Aaron’s lyrical reflections, weaving together threads of introspection and shared exploration.
The fruit of our dialogue bore witness to a symphony of creativity—a song echoing with personal narratives, a poem pulsating with existential inquiries, an image capturing the interplay of light and shadow, and a video breathing life into our shared journey. In this collaborative endeavour, Aaron and I unearthed the beauty in vulnerability, the richness in shared experience, and the boundless potential of artistic expression.
Beautiful.
