Very exciting news! Unpsychology Imaginings 9.1 - the print edition - is published!
Each PDF edition of Unpsychology Magazine is ALWAYS free to download. Now, however, we are also publishing a print edition to go with it! The print edition of issue 9.1, the first of our two Unpsychology Imaginings magazines is available now to purchase for £10 plus shipping wherever you are. We have tried to keep the cover price low as we know that postage costs can vary. Click the button below to buy your copy!
Note: We have prepared a correction sheet for issue 9.1, as some of the sound file links and QR codes have gone AWOL! You can find this in the download folder we’ve linked to below. We’ll try to fix this issue in the future.
You can pick up your copy of the printed magazine HERE. Please be aware that our magazines are produced using Print On Demand (POD). This means we only print what we need (less paper and energy used!), but it does mean that turnaround times are longer than just popping onto Amazon!
And if you are looking to order bulk copies of Unpsychology 9.1 (5 or more copies), please contact me (Unpsychology editor, Steve Thorp) at steve@unpsychology.org to ask about discounts.
Meanwhile here’s a sneak preview of this lovely object
The music on the video is one of the pieces improvised by Patrick Carpenter and the Imaginings Ensemble, especially for this issue of the magazine. You can find the full session and a description of their collaboration HERE.
Unpsychology in PRINT - a short history
We started putting Unpsychology Magazine out in 2014, and the first three issues were all in print. Back then, we could only do short runs, and getting the magazines out into the world was a challenge.
So, from issue 4 - The Climate Minds edition - we decided to offer Unpsychology as a free PDF download. It gave us flexibility in the design of the magazines, and meant that distribution became largely a virtual process, undertaken via social media and email lists.
But….those first three issues were lovely things. There’s nothing like a good magazine or book in your hand – and so we’ve been looking at other ways of offering a print edition, that didn’t involve us printing loads of copies, storing them in the attic and selling one or two copies now and again!
When issue 8, The Anthology of Warm Data, was published last year, we had a lot of requests for a printed version from contributors and members of the Warm Data community. So, we took the plunge and explored the world of POD (Print on Demand). What emerged was a beautiful thing that surprised us!
The Warm Data magazine had been a labour of love, and we were very proud of what we’d curated in partnership with our Warm Data authors and contributors, and published in the usual PDF format. However, when the printed copies started to arrive in people’s post boxes around the world, the response was even more positive!
So, this double issue - Unpsychology 9.1 and 9.2 – around the theme of Imaginings was planned in both print and PDF versions from the start. We think it is our best magazine yet, and we’d love you to have the satisfaction of opening the package and going '“Wow” - as we did when our own copies came through!
What has been so amazing about producing this print version is that it is just as multimedia interactive as the PDF version. There are QR codes and links throughout that take you to… well I’ll leave you to find that out!!!
As I write, we are well into the second Imaginings compilation. There was so much amazing, writing, art, music and video that we decided to do two editions of the magazine in 2023. The first edition 9.1 is out now and is available as a FREE download from HERE. issue 9.2 will be available in the Autumn (both PDF and print versions. And all previous editions of the magazine are available as FREE PDF downloads from HERE.
